Once upon a pitch side, the wizard of Etihad, Pep Guardiola himself, cooked up a team selection bigger than a footballer’s ego for the FA Cup Final! Alas, poor James McAtee and Rico Lewis were left out in the cold, like a forgotten sock in a star footballer’s laundry basket. Feisty new recruits Echeverri, Reis, and Khusanov had muscled their way onto the pitch so hard, it seemed McAtee and Lewis might as well have been training their pet hamsters back home.
James ‘The Forgotten’ McAtee got the ol’ thumbs-down from the team roster like a cruel game of football thumbs up, thumbs down. Even the under-21 European Championship waved its siren call, while the Club World Cup was like, “Nah mate, not this time!” Can Pep really bet his golden boots that selling McAtee wasn’t the equivalent of gifting another club a winning lottery ticket?
But wait! Rico ‘Can’t Shake Him’ Lewis perhaps has the last laugh, catching the Club World Cup ticket like a golden snitch! With Kyle Walker hoofing it to pastures new and Matheus Nunes potentially doing the tango away, it seems City might need every Lewis-shaped jigsaw piece in their defense puzzle. Who knew Pep’s decisions were as unpredictable as a cat with an attacking flair for the game of football!
