Praiseworthy Negotiations Lead to New Signing…
Manchester City have been applauded for their negotiation skills after signing teenage goalkeeper Ben Vickery from Hibernian. The 16-year-old, who some say was spotted by City scouts playing five-a-side in the Highland mist, was secured for a whopping £200,000. The deal also includes a sell-on clause because, let’s face it, he might soon be shooting for Premier League stardom faster than you can say Haggis! Vickery, hailing from Hibs’ academy since age 10, recently shifted allegiance to England’s Under-17s, proving that crossing borders is now easier for teen goalies than switching TV channels.
Hibernian’s sporting director, Malky Mackay, praised Vickery’s potential, noting that when Manchester City comes knocking, it’s like the Queen inviting you for afternoon tea – impossible to refuse! After an impressive trial, City and Hibs reached an agreement that spared them the usual penny-pinching squabbles. The deal came through just before the summer, and Vickery made his debut on the City bench as the Under-18s crushed Blackburn Rovers 7-3. So, with thumbs up from both sides of the border, it looks like Ben’s not only guarding goalposts but bridging gaps too!
