City’s Early Season Challenges and Opportunities…
Manchester City fans might feel like picking up a set of crutches themselves with injury clouds hovering over key players Mateo Kovacic and Rodri. Usually, Pep Guardiola crafts his squad into footballing wizards by practicing more than a dog with a squeaky toy, but this preseason, they haven’t even had enough friendlies to call up a grumpy neighbor to complain about noise. Seriously, the Universe might have cost them another world trip when they crashed out of the Club World Cup faster than a toupee in a hurricane against Al Hilal.
The Blues, however, have a silver lining stuffed into their fixture list like a clown car at a circus. Their opening three games, while against tricky opponents, are teams dealing with their own hiccups like a cat stuck in a hammock. Wolves have been wobbling more than a jelly on a washing machine, and Spurs are facing an identity crisis so fierce it could have its own reality show. While City’s journey isn’t lined with candy, at least others are fumbling with their own stubbed toes, which may give Guardiola’s men the breather they need to find their feet.
