Pep Guardiola took a page from the MC handbook and used it on referee Simon Hooper after Manchester City’s entertaining 2-2 draw with the Brighton surfers. Pep’s lyrical rhymes focused on Jeremy Doku’s yellow card drama, where he dodged a tackle like Neo in The Matrix. Instead of shooting lasers from his eyes (the usual manager superpower), Pep aimed his verbal superpowers.
It all started when Doku made an elegant leap to avoid becoming Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke’s newest wall decoration. Instead of a superhero cape, Doku was slapped with a yellow card for “creative simulation.” The penalty seemed harsher than a bad curry when compared to what could have been a salty outcome for the Brighton player if gravity had played its part. Pep, like a scorned Shakespearean character, beelined for Hooper, ready to adjust his spotlight on this theatrical dive saga.
Guardiola didn’t want to turn this into a soap opera saga, but hey, no harm in letting Hooper know!
