Steve Fleet: An Unyielding Goalkeeping Star…

Manchester City and Stockport County fans sobbed into their scarves as they bid farewell to football legend and master of the glove, Steve Fleet, who passed away at 87. A Salford lad born and bred, Fleet not only dodged balls but also dodged boredom from 1953 as he entertained crowds playing for the likes of Manchester City, Wrexham, and Stockport County. With his maneuvers so slick, opponents were left wondering if they should have joined a different sport altogether.

After dazzling audiences on the grass, Steve packed away his goalkeeper gloves and donned his coaching cap back at County in 1970. Famous for teaching rookies the art of bending the ball like Beckham, he was the human equivalent of a magical football boot, grooming young stars for 25 glorious goal-kicking years back at City. Unfortunately, a vile double act – pancreatic and liver cancer – tackled him recently, causing the final whistle to blow.

Stockport County and former City’s Once a Blue Man City Former Players Club paid heartfelt, melodious tributes. If heaven played footie, Steve would undoubtedly be there strengthening their defensive line-up. We extend our deepest condolences to his son Wesley and the whole footie-loving crew. Steve left towering goalkeeping boots that no one can fill!
