Roadwork Roulette and Football Frolics…

Buckle up, Manchester! A marathon of overnight road closures on Ashton New Road is set to kick off for two weeks starting next Monday (March 17) for some ‘much-needed improvements.’ From 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays, road workers will be moonlighting as asphalt artists, urging motorists to practice their best U-turns. Weekends, however, remain untapped by the roadwork gods—at least for now.

Despite the chaos inches away from the Etihad Stadium, the men’s team will be away, leaving the pitch to Manchester City’s women’s team. While the road workers paint lines, the women will aim to chalk up wins against Chelsea in their Champions League showdown on March 19. As roadblocks and football nets vie for attention, comic Shane Gillis adds to the asphalt antics on March 20 at Co-op Live.

Fear not, maps lovers—diversion routes will make rounds like a football being passed. Traffic marshals, donning their referee hats, will oversee the action. Councillor Tracey Rawlins promises minimal delays, plenty of elbow grease, and hopefully, tolerable tannin levels in everyone’s tea. Hang tight, Manchester, and may the odds be ever in your favor during this street-smart shuffle!
